Barbaggio

Barbaggio

The village of Barbaggio is located in the Nebbiu region, in the heart of the Conca d'Oru district, which has been awarded the Grand Site de France label.

As you enter the commune, you'll discover three tiered hamlets that make up the main village around the San Marcellu church, home to a number of remarkable paintings, including "Saint-Jérôme dans le désert" (Saint Jerome in the Desert), listed as a Monument Historique. Excavations at the 11th-century San Petru piévane church, in a place called Torra, have unearthed a bell melter (only 2 have ever been found in Corsica).

Located 8 kilometers from Saint-Florent and around ten from Bastia, the commune boasts a belvedere at the Col de Teghime on the D38, offering a breathtaking 180° view of the Gulf of Saint-Florent and the Patrimonio vineyards, of which it is a part.

The commune of Barbaggio, which covers a large area between plains and mountains, was an important stage in the Liberation of Corsica during the Second World War.

For sports enthusiasts, a number of hiking trails have just been inaugurated, including the Serra trail with its breathtaking panoramic views (from Piazze to Bocca di Teghime). It takes you to the Bastia, Ville di Pietrabugno and Cardo glaciers.
