Tourism - Saint-Florent

The beaches

The wonderful beaches of the Gulf of St Florent andAgriate are among the most beautiful in Corsica. They can be reached on foot along the customs path from St Florent, by boat from the port to these exceptional beaches or by 4X4 vehicle. Between relaxation and water sports, Lotu, Saleccia and Malfalcu will enchant your vacation. From the port of Saint-Florent, you can take a boat to the beaches of Lotu and Saleccia in just 20 minutes. Don't hesitate to ask the Tourist Office for timetables. The quality of the sand and the turquoise waters are remarkable. The Roya beach is accessible from the town center via a footbridge. This large sandy beach is ideal for families, thanks to its low water level. At the northern end of the village, you'll also find the "Ospedale" beach, equipped with an access ramp for the disabled.

Olzu and the Ospedale

At the northern end of the village, in the direction of Patrimonio, about 1km from Saint-Florent town center, you'll find the beaches of Ospedale and Olzu.

The Ospedale beach is equipped with an access mat for the disabled.

These pebbled and sandy beaches face the Agriate desert and the marvellous Gulf of Saint-Florent, and enjoy a certain calm, even in high season.

A "blockauss", a vestige of the last world war, can be seen here, and a large free parking lot is available.

The Roya

The beach just a stone's throw from the center

The Roya beach is the family beach par excellence. Its low water level over a long distance guarantees safety for children.

This large beach can be reached directly from the village center via a footbridge, and also benefits from several free parking lots all along the road.

You'll find a number of campsites in the immediate vicinity, as all you have to do is cross the green lanes leading directly to the beach. You can also enjoy a wide range of water sports.

On part of this beach, you'll find fallen leaves forming "banks" and patches of Posidonia meadows, a species endemic to the Mediterranean and protected even when dead. In fact, these "banks" of algae are a real protection against coastal erosion and are characteristic of good-quality water.

Fiume Santu

The ideal coastal shelter

Discover Fiume Santu, a tranquil beach where the eponymous river meets the turquoise sea.

Its location, protected from winds and currents, makes it an ideal coastal refuge for dropping anchor or relaxing after an hour-and-a-half walk from Saint-Florent.

Lotu beach

A magnificent white sand beach

A must-see in the Agriate desert, Lotu is the first major beach in this wild region. It stands out from neighboring Saleccia thanks to its unobstructed panorama, offering breathtaking views over the maquis-covered valleys.

Every year, during the summer season, a pontoon is installed to facilitate access by sea. Visitors can get there by boat in around 20 minutes from the port of Saint-Florent. For the more adventurous, it's also possible to walk along the coastal path, which takes around three hours from Anse de Fornali. 4×4 shuttles from Casta are also available to take you to this heavenly spot.

Saleccia

The pearl of Agriate

A veritable jewel of Corsica, Saleccia beach is one of the island's most spectacular. Its strip of white sand bordered by crystal-clear water stretches for over a kilometer and offers an unparalleled spectacle. The dunes, dotted with juniper and Aleppo pine trees, offer not only a picturesque landscape but also a haven from the sun during the hottest hours of the day.

A place steeped in history, Saleccia was, in 1943, the scene of a delivery of 13 tonnes of arms by the Casabianca submarine to support the Resistance. What's more, in 1961, the beach was chosen for its pristine, undeveloped coastline as the setting for scenes from the Allied landings in Normandy in the film "The Longest Day".

As with Lotu beach, access is by boat from Saint-Florent, by 4×4 from Casta or on foot in four and a half hours from Anse de Fornali.

Ghignu

White sand and turquoise waters

A hidden treasure in the heart of the Agriate, Ghignu beach is famous for its wild, unspoilt character. With its immaculate sand and translucent waters, the beach is topped by a majestic dune that offers breathtaking scenery.

More isolated than its neighbors, it can be reached by boat, by 4×4 at the end of a long, rugged track, or after a three-hour walk from Saleccia beach for the more adventurous.

The journey from Saleccia to Ghignu takes 3 hours. If you decide to stay overnight, you'll have the chance to sleep in pagliaghji, ancient shepherds' cottages.
