Santo Pietro di Tenda

Santo Pietro di Tenda

The village lies on the slopes of the Tenda massif. It is one of the largest areas in Corsica, stretching as far as the Agriate Desert. In the center, you'll be amazed by the imposing 18th-century church of Saint-Jean-l'Évangéliste, with its recently renovated facade listed as a Monument Historique. Inside, you'll discover the 17th-century painting "The Descent from the Cross". The high bell tower adjoins the Sainte-Croix oratory, a jewel of Baroque art dating from the 16th century.

Near the hamlet of Casta, you'll find the remains of prehistoric megalithic dwellings dating back to the end of the 5th millennium BC. They are located at the foot of Monte Revincu.

But Santo Pietro is also and above all the territory of the Agriate, better known as the "Agriate Desert" and rich in its agro-pastoral past. Since Neolithic times, people have raised livestock, built typical straw huts and, above all, cultivated the land, so much so that the "desert" was nicknamed the "granary of the Nebbiu". The Agriate, this vast, unspoilt territory is bordered by a rocky coastline and majestic sandy beaches with crystal-clear waters (Saleccia, Malfalcu).

These fabulous landscapes, characterized by omnipresent nature, made up of rocky hills, wild valleys and a vast expanse of scrubland, can be discovered from the D81, after the hamlet of Casta.

For walkers, these beaches are also accessible via the coastal path starting from the Roya beach. You can alternate between swimming, hiking and exploring.
